Latin America and the Caribbean Program — 2026

This gathering grows from the conviction that movements gain strength through connection and solidarity. The Latin America and Caribbean Program will bring together 9 partner organizations from 7 countries across the region to meet from their stories, territories, cultures and lived experiences; to recognize one another as protagonists in defending and building agroecological futures for Latin America; and to strengthen ties between movements by exchanging capacities, strategies, challenges and collectively built solutions.

We hope this gathering will be a space where trust deepens through stories of resilience and resistance; where peer learning emerges from lived experience; and where knowledge is built and valued collectively. At the heart of this process is Thousand Currents’ commitment to understanding how philanthropy can walk alongside frontline communities and social movements, genuinely strengthening their capacity to scale agroecology, defend territories and biodiversity, and build economies that are both politically transformative and economically sustainable.

The moment we are in

Since August 2025, SASY has advanced a new strategy built on tenderness, solidarity and the trust of its partner organizations. In Latin America and the Caribbean, this strategy reaffirms the commitment to accompany those who, despite criminalization and many challenges, defend the commons, protect land and water, and build food systems that make healthy food and a living planet possible.

Within this frame, the Production and Commercialization track seeks to strengthen agroecological movements’ capacity to expand production and market access without losing the transformative power of their community experiences. The strategy accompanies the strengthening of family farming, access to land and finance, technical capacity building, appropriate research and technologies, product transformation, public-policy advocacy, community infrastructure, cooperatives and solidarity-economy circuits, as well as access to local, national and international markets with fair remuneration. It also recognizes the role of agroecological innovation and commercialization in creating opportunities for youth to remain in their territories and strengthen their leadership in transforming those territories.

    Where will we meet and where will we stay?

    We will gather on Red COMAL territory at its Solidarity Economy School (ECOSOL), Colonia 3 de Septiembre, Km 5.3 Carretera a La Esperanza, Siguatepeque, Comayagua, Honduras. Some participants will stay in ECOSOL cabins; others at Hotel Granja D'Elia, about a 10-minute drive from ECOSOL, Barrio Paso Hondo, Carretera CA-5, 12111, Siguatepeque, Comayagua, Honduras.

    Which days are the activities?

    Monday October 5: arrivals. Tuesday 6 through Sunday 11 (until noon): working days. Tuesday 6 evening: welcome dinner. Sunday October 11: departures.

    What should I check before traveling?

    Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months and bring yellow fever and COVID-19 vaccination certificates if applicable. Keep digital copies of travel documents, including the invitation letter. Pack comfortable clothes for warm weather and shoes for walks and field activities, plus any medications and personal-care items. You may bring your organization’s flag, an object, seed, textile or photo representing your territory, and agroecological products, seeds or crafts for the community fair. Most important: come with openness, curiosity and willingness to listen and learn together.

    How do I get from the airport to ECOSOL or the hotel?

    Do not worry about the transfer. On arrival, a driver will wait in arrivals with a sign bearing your name. If you cannot find them, your flight changes, or any issue arises, contact the logistics team and/or Alex using the numbers shared before the gathering.

    And from ECOSOL/hotel to the airport?

    We will also arrange your return transfer. An assigned driver will pick you up from the hotel with enough time. We will confirm pickup time based on your flight before departure.

    How will allergies or dietary restrictions be handled?

    The ECOSOL team will consider allergies, preferences or dietary restrictions shared in advance. Meals will be clearly labeled. If you stay at Hotel Granja D'Elia and have an allergy, please also inform the hotel staff.

    Do I have medical insurance?

    Yes, each participant has travel medical insurance valid for transfer days and event days per the policy. Extra stay days are not covered. The policy will be emailed before travel.

    What safety measures should I keep in mind during my stay in Honduras?

    Keep belongings in sight; avoid traveling alone at night; do not share sensitive personal information with strangers; tell logistics if you leave the hotel on your own; and carry organizer contact numbers. A support team will be available throughout the gathering.
